Beatle time
I sat down and listened to the twenty-seven songs on the Beatles’ album, One. I must say, I don’t know what possessed me. Because honestly, I was looking for that high that’s talked about everywhere about these guys from Liverpool and I failed to even feel a twinkling.
For me, it was twenty-seven songs that are best suited for some sort of sad party. The first one, Love Me Do, was a put down but I was hoping that the others would be better. Bad move. They are so old style. The fast ones are just about drums and wailing voices. The best song on the album for me is Hey Jude but it stretches to seven minutes. All the other songs are about 2 minutes or 3.
The one song that has been played in the 90s and recently is perhaps, Let It Be. It’s laid back and all that but at least it can hold its own with the songs that are considered hot today. Someone will say it sounds like a gospel track but hey, maybe it is.
Somehow, I can only relate to the fab four as the group that had the John who had a Japanese girlfriend. The group that gave the world Sir Paul McCartney and all those songs he’s done in the years since they were not big anymore. Where did Ringo Starr and the other guy go, by the way? Gotta check out the net.

I find I want to hold your hand and Help OK (at least as far as songs from the 60s go). I think to understand the beatles it is important to know what people were listening to prior to their arrival on the scene nd how the guys from liverpool changed that. Ringo has just released a new album, don't know about the other guy.
Did you know that yesterday 8th was the 25th anniversary of Lennon's death.
thanx Jay. for some reason, i kept on obsessing about Ringo. i think i liked him for no other apparent reason than that his name sounds cool. and yeah, it was Lennon's memorial that inspired my post. had to go and listen to that stuff (which i cant understand unless i go into the mindset of a sixties dude). phew!

The Beatles just happened to be the first ones to make a splash. That doesn't make you the best, but it ensures your legacy. If you want sixties rock, you need to get down with Chuck Berry and 'em. Whoa!
I mean, I have listened to quite a bit of Beatles music (mostly via a weekly cartoon show when I was a kid that featured a different song each episode) and I can appreciate and even sing along to a bunch of it. But if those guys came out today they would be lumped in with the Spice Girls. No one would take them seriously. Where's Hendrix?
